WHAT IS NEUROPSYCHOLOGY?

Clinical neuropsychologists are specialists in the assessment of behaviour and cognition (i.e. memory and thinking skills). They have advanced knowledge of brain structure and function, and how damage to the brain can result in changes to a person’s cognition and behaviour.

Neuropsychologists have access to, and the expertise to interpret, the most sensitive and valid measures of cognitive functioning. In this way, neuropsychology assessment can provide much richer information about a person’s cognition than is possible through brief screening assessments that are typically performed by non-neuropsychologists.
